The
flooding rains and freezing temperatures did not keep
the supporters and barrel racers at home.
We could not have done this without everyone involved
from the work crew, contestants, donation items, stallion
owners & arena owner. We had a total of 256 entries
and $2,000 added. The added money was donated by eight
different sponsors.
The race was held on January 30, 2010 @ Cowboy Collection
Arena in Terrell, TX. The arena was donated by the owner,
Jeff Smith. We had local contestants as well as contestants
from as far as Kentucky, Georgia and Indiana. At the
end of the day Jolene Stewart stopped the clock with
a 15.1 and arena record. The race has been recorded
with Equi-Stat so has gone down in history!
The raffle items, including the WPRA print, were all
offered in the auction. All items were displayed on
the 20 tables with a bid sheet. The auction was a huge
success, as well. One of our largest donors was Jud
Little. He donated a breeding to Bug In My Frosty as
well as matched the monies earned at the race in the
amount of $10,000. At the end of the day we had raised
a total of $36,600. The WPRA print, Looking for the
Cure, was won by Kappie Nelson. She is a long time WPRA
member and now resides in Marshall, TX.
The race monies were all donated to Boe Kellogg to help
with his rising medical costs. The family of seven includes
Boe Kellogg, Randa Kellogg, and their five boys, as
follows:
Hays is 14 years old.
Jake is 13 years old.
Jared is 11 years old.
Jace is 4 years old.
Jett is 22 months old.
The race was produced by Rebecca Rockett-Merritt, Lisa
Baccus, and Barbara Jenkins. The race team did not end
there! We had vital volunteers including Donna Johnston-Wilder,
Cheri Cogburn, Stephanie Green, Sharon Luker, and Robin
Hill in the office, as well. The dirt crew consisted
of one determined volunteer, Tony Jenkins. The arena
crew was managed by Penny Gaylor (barrel setters). We
are a huge supportive family in East Texas and take
pride in helping our fellow barrel racers and friends.
Congratulations to Kappie Nelson, Marshall, Texas..she
won the Dorman Burns print!!
