Status: Single
Family: 3 daughters, Stacy Masingale, Tara Bush, and Amy Tropea. My daughters have 3 great husbands and I have 3 wonderful grandchildren.
Member of the WPRA since:
2010
Accomplishments: Arizona WPRA Chapter 2010 Permit Champion, AW4D AZ State Champion Open and Senior 2010 and 2011. AZ NBHA Champion Open and Senior Champion several times, Top 25 in WPRA World standings and Top 2 in California WPRA Chapter in 1972

1. What do you do for a living? I train horses and give riding lessons. I have been doing it for 40 years.

2. What do you enjoy doing outside of riding? I’m part of the National Christian Barrel Racers Association and help put on Cowboy Church at the barrel races.

3. How did you get started in rodeo? I started when I was 21 yrs old in Northern California. My husband was a bullrider and we rodeod all over California. We moved to Arizona to help my dad with his race horses and stopped rodeoing. I didn’t keep my WPRA card and all of my information was lost, so when I started rodeoing last year, I had to start over again on a permit.

4. What is your horse’s name? How old is he or she? Sarita Dual, aka Sarie. She is an 11 year old mare I trained myself.

5. How would you describe his/her style? She is a free runner. I run her with hardly anything for headgear and she just wraps the barrels.

6. Does he/she have any quirks that make them unique? Not really she is just very serious about her job, a real hard worker.

7. What is your riding regiment during rodeo season? I do a lot of long trotting and a little drill work once a week on the barrels and once a week on the poles. Sarie is a solid low 20's pole horse. Probably because my dad Wayne Sandberg wrote the book "19 Second Pole Bending". I try to keep all my horses working in the poles and barrels equally well. We also work in a swimming session once a week.

8. Do you have any superstitions or quirks when competing? No, I pray.

9. Do you have any hauling partners? My friend Stacey Anderson Robertson. She doesn’t compete in the WPRA, but she does all the driving and helps me with all that it takes to be hauling and competing.

10. What is your favorite rodeo to compete at? Lovington, NM. The arena is fun and the crowd is really good.

11. What is something that people would be surprised to learn about you? That I enjoy playing the piano.

12. What is your goal for this rodeo season? I’m going to make as many Turquoise circuit rodeos as I can and would like to make the Circuit Finals.
