1.
What do you do for a living? I'm the
assistant coach for the Tarleton State University
rodeo team. I also give riding & roping
lessons and train horses.
2. What do you enjoy
doing outside of riding? Spending time
with my family and playing intramural basketball.
3. How did you get
started in rodeo? My parents and grandparents
rodeod, so I naturally followed suit. I
grew up on a ranch 30 miles from town, so
riding was our entertainment. I competed
in American Junior Rodeo Association, high
school rodeo, college rodeo, and still compete
in the Texas Amateur rodeo associations
and the WPRA.
4. What is your horse's
name? How old is he or she? Diablo,
18 yrs old (retired), DW Driftwood Cowboy
aka Cowboy, a 11 yr. old gelding, JJ, a
10 yr. old gelding and Woodbridge Lane,
aka Quick, a 4 yr. old gelding.
5. How would you
describe his/her style? Diablo was one
of those horses that you want to last forever.
He is a winner and looked pretty doing it.
My granddad Kenny Smith bought him from
the Spade ranch when he was 4yrs old. Cowboy
is an all around horse. I can breakaway
rope, team rope, calf rope, and run barrels
on him and he is a great kid horse. I just
got JJ. I use him for calf roping, breakaway
roping, and heeling. Quick takes after his
name...he has been a very quick learner.
He picks up everything really natural. He
is my futurity barrel colt for this year
and I have roped on him too. My granddad
John Rae Powell raised both JJ & Quick
on his ranch.
6. Does he/she have
any quirks that make them unique? Diablo,
which means "The Devil" in Spanish,
takes after his name. He is one of the best
horses my family has ever owned. I rode
him in High School through 2007. He would
buck, was hard to bridle, set back, etc.
But once you got on he was awesome. Cowboy
is great to be around & my son loves
to ride him. Quick is very athletic and
smart.
7. What is your riding
regiment during rodeo season? I ride
just about every day of the year.
8. Do you have any
superstitions or quirks when competing?
No, in fact I've even won several big
events with a yellow shirt on & a $50
bill in my pocket.
9. Do you have any
hauling partners? My mother-in-law,
Barry Smith, my sister-in-law, Shelby Smith,
my husband, Sterling, Lari Dee Guy, Jackie
Hobbs, Jayme Marcum
10. What is your
favorite rodeo to compete at? The Windy
Ryan roping because it is in Fort Worth,
which is close to home, it pays really good
and I usually have good luck there. Also
the Wildfire Ladies Open to the World team
roping, its always a great roping, lots
of added money, and prizes.
11. What is something
that people would be surprised to learn
about you? I graduated from Tarleton
State University in 2003 with a business
administration degree.
12. What is your
goal for this rodeo season? I want to
rope well at the big ropings and hopefully
season & win on my futurity colt.
13. Are there
any special products you use? Classic
& Rattler ropes, Classic Equine products,
Martin Saddles, and Choice of Champions
equine products.

What do you do for a living? I work
for Ed and Martha Wright. I do a little
bit of everything from saddling horses,
putting clinic bridles together, filling
tack orders, riding, and feeding.
2. What do you enjoy
doing outside of riding? Reading, spending
time with my family, church activities,
and tapping away at my iPhone4. Horses take
up most of my time.
3. How did you get
started in rodeo? My parents rodeoed
so it is all I have ever known. My dad is
a PRCA team roper. He has been to the Texas
Circuit Finals 20 times, the Dodge National
Circuit Finals 4 times, and was the Texas
Circuit Team Roping director for many years.
My mom ran barrels NHSRA qualifier in the
barrel race) and roped.
4. What is your horses

Desi, aka Desi. She is a 7 year old mare
by Dash ta Fame. Ed and Martha own her mother,
grandmother, and her brother and sister
also live on the place.
5. How would you
describe his/her style? She always wants
to work, runs hard, and hunts a barrel.
She is easy to ride and you cant send
her by a barrel. Her heart and try are awesome!
6. Does he/she have
any quirks that make them unique? Shes
a typical mare and is a little temperamental.
She always has her game face on and does
not relax a lot.
7. What is your riding
regiment during rodeo season? I ride
every day and typically ride about three
horses. By the time I get to my herd at
the end of the day, Ive already saddled
ten or twelve for Ed and Martha. We ride
all day, every day.
8. Do you have any
superstitions or quirks when competing?
I dont like money in my pocket,
so I put in my boot.
9. Do you have any
hauling partners? Martha Wright.
10. What is your
favorite rodeo to compete at? Bryan,
TX because I won second (behind Martha)
and won my first pro rodeo check there.
I also like San Angelo, TX because of their
format of having a qualifying round and
letting the top times advance to the second
go round in the coliseum during the rodeo
performances.
11. What is something
that people would be surprised to learn
about you? People think Im quiet
and shy, but once you get to know me, Im
pretty outgoing.
12. What is your
goal for this rodeo season? I want to
fill my permit and be competitive at an
elite level. I would like to get into Fort
Worth, TX this year and maybe qualify for
my circuit finals someday.

What do you do for a living? I'm a high
school senior.
2. What do you enjoy
doing outside of riding? I participate
in high school volleyball, basketball, track
and tennis.
3. Name something
that most people don't know about you? I
seem really quiet at rodeos, but if you
come up and talk to me, I will talk your
ear off. I am also allergic to horses!
4. How did you get
started in rodeo? My dad's friend, Stacey
Grimes, started me out when I was 13 yrs
old.
5. What has been
your greatest accomplishment? Winning
the WPRA Junior World title for 2010, placing
5th at Josey Junior World in 2008 and qualifying
for Team USA in both the Junior and Open
race to be held in Georgia this April.
6. Do you have any
superstitions or quirks when competing?
I always knock on my saddle horn to avoid
getting jinxed if someone makes a comment
about how my run will be.
7. What is your favorite
rodeo to compete at? Sherry Lynn Johnson
Invitational and High School rodeos, because
I know everyone.
8. Do you have any
hauling partners? Who? My Dad, Trip.
I would go to all of the old World Barrel
Racing events with Stacey Grimes, we had
a blast.
9. What is your favorite
rodeo memory? Hauling with Brittany
Pozzi a couple of years to the Sherry Lynn
Johnson Invitational Barrel Race in Oklahoma.
I learned a lot from her.
10. What is your
horse's name? How old is he or she?
I have 5 horses that I compete on.. .
MakeARocket Buzz, aka "Fuzzy",
a 9 year old gelding,
Fols Dear John, aka "John", a
14 year old stallion,
Foxys Driftin Jewel, aka "Jewels",
a 8 year old mare,
Flyin Hi Firewater, aka "Hummer",
a 8 year old gelding, and
Native Fame, aka "Rusty", a 11
year old gelding.
11. How would you
describe his/her style? Fuzzy, who is
also my high school pole horse, sets hard.
If I need a clean run, I ride him because
he doesn't hit barrels. I can run right
at the barrels from just about anywhere
and he can turn, he is totally automatic.
12. Does he/she have
any quirks that make them a unique partner?
Fuzzy is like a dog, when you yell his name,
he will run to fence. He paws the ground
right before he runs, you know he is going
to lay one down.
13. What is your
riding regiment during rodeo season? I
don't have much time with my sports schedule.
I usually just ride at the rodeo, sometime
I will long trot at home. I go every weekend
and generally hit jackpots so I can ride
all 5 horses and then take one horse to
a rodeo on Friday or Saturday night, like
a Lester Meier or CPRA rodeo.
14. What is your
goal for this rodeo season? To keep
competing a lot. I am aiming for a THSRA
State Championship and a Nationals appearance
for a chance to win Nationals. I am turning
18 in March and would love to fill my card
and enter rodeos to see if I can win enough
to get into the winter rodeos like, San
Antonio and Houston. I eventually want to
take a shot at going to the NFR

1. What do you
do for a living? I'm a registered nurse
2. What do you enjoy
doing outside of riding? I pretty much
just work and ride.
3. Name something
that most people don't know about you?
I've been a nurse for 31 years.
4. How did you get
started in rodeo? My dad trained horses
and he started me riding when I was 6 years
old. He would have us kids help him put
some miles on his horses. I started rodeing
when I was 9 or 10 years old, and competed
in high school and amateur rodeos.
5. What has been
your greatest accomplishment? Just being
able to ride and compete on a nice horse.
6. Do you have any
superstitions or quirks when competing?
Oh yea, I have lucky bracelets that
I always wear. I have to have them on. I
always have to kiss my husband before I
leave.
7. What is your favorite
rodeo to compete at? Fort Worth, TX
stock show. It has always been my favorite.
I ran there as teen when it was invitational
and this year I was excited to run there
for the first time on my WPRA card.
8. Do you have any
hauling partners? Who? I usually go
by myself.
9. What is your favorite
rodeo memory? This year at Weatherford,
TX. It was really muddy and I didn't think
my horse was going to work for me. We ended
up running the fastest time in slack. It
really meant a lot to me that he went in
and worked well for me, especially since
I consider that my hometown rodeo. My run
was just on Women's Pro Rodeo Today, in
fact. My parents loved seeing me on TV.
10. What is your
horse's name? How old is he or she?
Rapid Firing Pass, aka "Jeffery".
He is a 9 year old gelding that Paul Humphrey
trained for me.
11. How would you
describe his/her style? He is pretty
free running. He is very laid back and pretty
much works by himself. I just have to sit
up there and let him work.
12. Does he/she have
any quirks that make them a unique partner?
Oh yea, he is very particular. He will
only pee in shavings, so have to load him
back into the trailer so he can go before
we run. He also will only drink out of stock
tank, no buckets, so I have to haul a big
water tank with me on the road.
13. What is your
riding regiment during rodeo season?
I usually ride 3-4 days a week. I try to
keep him in really good shape.
14. What is your
goal for this rodeo season? To try to
season my horse to the rodeo environment.
This was his 1st year and he was very spooky,
especially at banners. I tried to enter
for slack to ease him into it, and he is
coming along.
