Competitor Rule Tips

No Conflict Preference

NO CONFLICT PREFERENCE BEGINNING JANUARY 21, 2009

What is NO CONFLICT?
At rodeos whose entries close after the entry closing time of San Antonio (11:00 AM MST January 21, 2009) contestants will be allowed to give a "No Same Day'' or "No Same Performance" preference as a second preference at the time of entry.

A "No Same Day" or "No Same Performance" preference will ensure that contestants will not be placed to compete at two or more different rodeos either on the same day or within the same performance timeframe. Performances will be defined as beginning at 12 AM through 11:59 AM being a morning performance, 12 PM (noon) through 5:59 PM being a matinee performance, and 6 PM through 11:59 PM being a night performance for the purpose of using the "No Same Performance" preference.

This will eliminate contestants having to pay entry fees and turnout fines at rodeos at which they are unable to compete due to conflicts with other rodeos.

How does it work?
The contestant must give, at the time of entry, a specific performance, a specific slack, generic slack, or the middle as a first preference to use these new preferences. Conflicts will not be checked for first preferences, conflicts will only be checked if a contestant doesn't get their first preference. Contestants are responsible for ensuring they do not have a conflict with their first preference. If a contestant does not get their first preference, they will be placed in the first available non-conflict position or be drawn out, if and only if one of the no conflict preferences were given.

Only the first go-round of a two or more go-round rodeo will be checked for conflicts with the exception of back to back formats or other situations where the second or subsequent go-rounds cannot be traded. If trades for subsequent go-rounds at a specific rodeo will not be allowed, conflicts will be checked for all go-rounds at that rodeo. Where the PRCA Rulebook allows, second or subsequent go-rounds trades will be done through the rodeo secretary.

For rodeos that have conflicting dates, the entries for the rodeos with the largest amount of total added
money will close first. Therefore, a contestant will be placed in a rodeo with a higher purse first and then placed in the smaller purse rodeo if a non-conflicting position is available.

If a no conflict preference is used, either "No Same Day'' or "No Same Performance", a contestant will not be placed in a conflicted position, he will be drawn-out. If any one contestant in a buddy group has a conflict, the entire buddy group will be drawn out. If either team roping partner has a conflict, both team roping partners will be drawn out. Contestants who use a no conflict option as a preference and are placed in a non-conflicting position at a rodeo, that contestant will be considered "traded" for that rodeo.

Contestants who give slack as a first preference no longer are required to give a performance as a second preference. Instead, contestants will also be allowed to give a specific slack, generic slack, or middle for their first preference and another specific slack for their second preference. Also, a contestant will be allowed to NOT give a second preference. AII other preferences and parameters that have been allowed in the past will remain the same.
