2005 Recap

POCATELLO, ID - HOLT ARENA - MARCH 16-19-2005

A rodeo athlete faces a tough road to the national spotlight, with just a handful of competitors reaching the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo each year. Seeing the need , the PRCA created the Circuit System in 1975 as a reward system for athletes who, for whatever reason, choose to compete only part-time, and often only at rodeos close to home.

The circuit system breaks up the United States into 12 circuits, consisting of anywhere from one to thirteen states. When a contestant earns money at a rodeo within his circuit, the points apply to her credit in both the world standings and her circuit's standings. At the end of the regular season, the top competitors in each event from a given circuit are invited to compete in the finals rodeo of that circuit. Aggregate champions from those rodeos will join the year-end winners at the DNCFR in Pocatello's Holt Arena.

While many members of the DNCFR field don't have NFR qualifications on their resumes, the level of competition in Pocatello is far from second rate. For many, the DNCFR marks the pinnacle of their rodeo careers, making the rodeo one of the most popular and hotly contested events on the PRCA schedule. This year is sure to be no exception.
