Accomplished barrel racer
Elizabeth Ann Stein, 77, of Washington,
died unexpectedly Friday, January 15, 2010, in Tucson,
Ariz. She was born September 22, 1932, in Gary, Ind.,
a daughter of the late Margaret C. Anderson and William
Machin. Mrs. Stein grew up in Ginger Hill and was a
graduate of Monongahela High School. She was an accomplished
barrel racer, having owned, trained and ridden several
horses to numerous wins in the futurity and rodeo arena
throughout the United States. One special win for her
was the 1975 AQHA World Champion Jr. Barrel Racing Horse
title. She was a gold card member of the Women's Professional
Rodeo Association. On March 22, 1957, she married Marty
Stein, who survives. Also surviving are a son, John
(Tami) Stein; and a daughter, Susie (Dick) Irey; three
grandsons, Cody, Austin and Tyler Stein; and a great-grandson,
Will. Mrs. Stein was the last of her immediate family.
A memorial service will be
held and announced at a later time. At the request of
the deceased, there will be a private burial in Monongahela
Cemetery. Frye Funeral Home Inc., Monongahela, is in
