OR 9/12/2011
In attendance: approximately 20
members
Jimmie opened the meeting by explaining
the purpose of these sessions.
Topic 1: Improve communications with members.
Jimmie explained these meetings are a start. Her on
line President's letter is being expanded to include
asking members for input on emerging important topics.
Topic 2: Concern over the # of
releases and turnouts at rodeos. Jimmie asked for
thoughts on why the # of releases & turnouts are
increasing and how to handle them. As in other meetings,
responses ranged from: entry open dates causing members
to enter even though much could happen to their horses
between then and the rodeo, to higher than anticipated
entry fees, to a large # of overlapping rodeo dates,
etc. There was a good discussion about the 30-hour replacement
policy and how members should take advantage of it.
Topic 3: Puyallup format. There was a discussion
about the format and how one advances to the finals
round.
Topic 4: Free Trades. There
was a discussion about the current # of free trades.
A request was made to increase the # of free trades.
A request was also made to not penalize the "helping
partner" in a trade. She recapped the added $ amount
Topic 5: WPRA World Finals. Jimmie
extended an invite for all to attend the 2011 World
Finals. She also covered what the Cardholder earnings
would count for in 2012.
Topic 6: Share thoughts on limited
entry rodeos. There was a discussion about the pros/cons
of creating a more standardized approach to entry criteria.
Jimmie covered why they are important to rodeo committees
and how the association has to balance the needs of
committees with the WPRA's role to provide more opportunities
for members to compete.
Topic 7: Timers for Tour rodeos
over $10,000. Jimmie explained that an anonymous
donor is funding the purchase of 3 sets of stackable
timers (one timer on top of another) for Tour rodeo
usage.
Topic 8:Request to change the
draw order at the 2011 WNFR. A member pointed out
that the bottom contestants entering the WNFR get the
top of the ground 2 times, while the top contestants
entering get the top of the ground only 1 time.
Topic 9: Houston Shootout Money.
There was a discussion as to whether the $50,000 Shootout
money should count toward World Standings. Most feel
as though it should not count toward qualifying for
the WNFR.
Topic 10: Rule regarding 60 foot
stopping line at rodeos. Jimmie gathered members'
thoughts on the topic.
Topic 11: WPRA Drug Policy.
