The
Scoti Flit Bar Rising Star Award, is given
by WPRA member Lana Merrick in honor of
her great NFR horse. Scoti Flit Bar and
Merrick qualified for a pair of NFRs
in 1987 and 1989 before Merrick lost her
great partner to a rare blood disease. The
Rising Star Award is awarded to a first
time WNFR qualifier to honor all the great
ones that should never be forgotten.
In
2008 the WNFR qualifiers voted Annesa Selfs
great gelding Dillion as the recipient of
the Scoti Flit Bar Rising Star Award. Self
describes the buckskin as onery but easy
to train. Dillion qualified Self to the
Texas Circuit Finals in his first year on
the rodeo trail but a season ending injury
in July of 2007 kept them from their first
WNFR a year ago. Dillion came on strong
following his six months recuperation from
surgery to make the WNFR in 2008.

Horse With the Most Heart Award
Martha,
owned and ridden by Lindsay Sears
Likely
the most coveted award amongst barrel racers is
the Horse with the Most Heart. Also voted on by
the Top 15 barrel racers, this award recognizes
the horse who is considered the most honest and
gutsy.
In
2008 the award went to the AQHA Horse of the Year,
Martha, owned and ridden by Lindsay Sears. Martha
has broken nearly every single season record in
2008--the pair set a new season earnings record
despite only competing in 29 rodeos. Sears gushed
about the eight-year old sorrel mare. Every
time we go in the arena, she tries her heart out.
I am very honored to have her. Martha and
Sears won Calgary, Houston, Tucson, Cheyenne,
and two legs of the Wrangler ProTour Playoff Series,
Omaha and Dallas.
