On Friday, August 3 the barrel racing world lost a great individual when 75-year old June Holeman passed away. Holeman of Arcadia, Neb., showed the barrel racing and rodeo world that age is just a number as she was still competing only weeks before her passing.
In 2005, Holeman became the oldest barrel racer to compete at the Wrangler NFR at age 62. That record would hold until 2016 when Mary Burger qualified for the NFR and won a world title at the young age of 68. Holeman’s funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, August 7 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be Monday from 5-8 p.m. Both events will be held at the Arcadia High School in Arcadia, Neb. Turquoise was Holeman’s color so her friends and family are asking those to remember and honor her by wearing turquoise at their next barrel race.
