Lickley Rocks the Reno Rodeo

6/29/10

Timi Lickley of Jerome, Idaho, raced her way to the biggest win of her career over the weekend at the 2010 Reno (Nev.) Rodeo. Lickley, who has remained in the Wilderness Circuit over the years, ventured down to Reno for the third time in her career and it seems like third time is the charm.

"It's amazing," she told the Reno Gazette Journal following her win. "It's the biggest win I've ever had."

Lickley, a former teacher and mother of two, entered the final round in fourth place behind Jolene Stewart, who trains for Jud Little and who won the Old Fort Days Rodeo in Ft. Smith, Ark., at the beginning of the month as well as world champions Brittany Pozzi and Lindsay Sears. Lickley made the 12-person field for the finals after tying for sixth in the first round in a time of 17.38 seconds and turned in a second round run of 17.24 seconds, to finish just outside the top 10 in that round.

On Saturday, Lickley and her 10-year old horse Hez All Rock, rocked the crowd with a run of 17.02 seconds to not only win the final round but also finish atop the leader board in the three run average with a total time of 51.64 seconds. Lickley and Rock edged two-time and reigning world champion Pozzi who finished with a time of 51.70 seconds. All totaled Lickley left Reno - The Biggest Little City in the World - with $7,787 and her first set of Reno Rodeo trophy spurs.

Brenda Mays of Terrebonne, Ore., turned in the fast time of this year's rodeo in the second round when she stopped the clock in 16.95 seconds to take the round victory. Stewart of Springer, Okla., won the first round in a time of 17.14 seconds.

A more detailed story will be available in the August issue of the Women's Pro Rodeo News.
