Finish Line Mega Finale Serves Up COLORADO SPRINGS,
Colo. -- As the
Women's Professional Rodeo Association begins a new chapter in its
illustrious history it does so in record fashion. For the first time
in history, the WPRA will payout $100,000 to the barrel racer with
the fastest time on one run during the WPRA Finish Line Mega Finale
at the Diamond W Arena in Alvarado, Texas, Jan. 16-20. Being billed
as Miller Lite presents the WPRA's Richest Run, a total of 40 contestants
will get a shot at earning $100,000 for a single run. Each entrant
must pay a $5,000 entry fee and only WPRA members are allowed to ride
in the competition, but the 40 entry slots are open to anyone including
horse owners who wish to pay the entry fee. The entry with the fastest
time will receive $100,000, while those placing second through sixth
will receive $20,000, $15,000, $10,000, $7,500 and $5,000, respectively.
The Miller Lite Richest Run will be held on Friday evening, Jan. 19,
following round two of the Coors Women's National Finals Rodeo. The
WPRA Finish Line Mega Finale also includes the 2006 season finals
of the Coors Women's National Finals Rodeo, the Dodge Rodeo Pro Futurity
Finals, the JB Quarter Horses Pro Derby Finals, the Wrangler Divisional
Tour Finals and a 4D Challenger Race and Finals. Action begins Tuesday
morning Jan. 16 and runs through Saturday, Jan. 20. "Our
goal is to produce a spectacular week of women's rodeo finals that
will attract top contestants, deliver great entertainment to fans
and demonstrate the strength of our sport," said WPRA President
Jymmy Kay Davis. "This isn't planned as a one-time event. It's
being viewed as the start of a new tradition." The Women's
National Finals Rodeo will be held Jan. 18-20 and will feature the
top 105 WPRA contestants in the events of bareback riding, bull riding,
breakaway roping, team roping, tie-down roping and barrel racing.
World titles will be awarded following the final performance on Saturday
night. Fifty-two
women are scheduled to compete in the Wrangler Divisional Tour Finals,
while several hundred entrants are expected for the 4D Challenger
event. The Pro Futurity and Pro Derby Finals will draw 100 and 50
competitors, respectively. Fans will
also have the opportunity, from 10AM-10PM on Jan. 18-20, to shop at
the "Ridin' for the Brand" trade show, buy raffle tickets
for a Jerry Beagley custom saddle with proceeds going to the Susan
G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, place bids on a silent auction
for Pro Elite Sire Incentive program stallion services and other items.
On Saturday from 9AM-4PM, attend "My Horse's Choice - Learn With
the Legends" barrel racing horsemanship clinic taught by four-time
world champion Kristie Peterson, 12-time NFR qualifier Kay Blandford
and four-time NFR qualifier Kelly Yates. Each woman will spend two
hours teaching about how they built winning horses with different
styles that have carried them to the pinnacle of the sport. Admission
for the Clinic is $35 for general admission, $50 for reserved seats,
and $25 for contestants. Admission
for other events held during the day is free. Evening event general
admission tickets for adults are $10 for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Tickets for children aged six to 12 are $5 and children under the
age of six are free. Reserved seats for adults are $20 and $10 for
children. Tickets are available by calling The Event Connection at
