12/10/11 Over the past few years the Women's Professional Rodeo Association, together with the Pro Elite Sire Incentive (PESI), have been working hard to reward breeders, owners and WPRA members with their stallion progeny program. With numbers increasing tremendously since 2009, the PESI and WPRA have seen numbers more than double. With stallions like Dash Ta Fame, Fire Water Flit, Letta Hank Do It and Stoli all registered in the program, the caliber of stallions couldn't be better.

With the goal of having one of the most cutting edge incentives, the PESI program aims to benefit all participants - stallion owners, breeders and WPRA members. Owners of horse receive 60% of the bonus money, while the stallion owner receives 30% and the breeder receives 10%. Partnering with the WPRA, the PESI offers the industry a program no other can.

This year at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo there are five horses that are currently enrolled in the program competing for extra bonus money. Current world standings leader, Brittany Pozzi and her 8 year old gelding, Duke (Sire: Alive N Firen Dam: Splendid Discovery). Christina Richman and her sorrel mare, Xtrared "Stich" (Sire: Red Dam: Attract). Real Claim Ta Fame "Claimer", Sue Smith's 8 year old gelding is also in the program (Sire: Dash Ta Fame Dam Alicia Rene). Sherry Cervi's world champion horse, Stingray (Sire: PC Frenchmans Hayday Dam: Mis Meter Jet). And Brenda Mays gelding, Judge Buy Cash, "Jethro" (Sire: Judge Cash Dam: Flashs Polly Vandy) rounds out the five horses competing in the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

"It's definitely grown over the years. When I took over in 2009 we had 22 stallions and 25 horses, which have now grown tremendously. We have a really nice set of events all over the United States and are working with independent producers and I can't say enough about them. Our goal for 2012 is to make 75 stallions and if we do that, the program will payout over $100,000," said Robin Hoffman, director of the program.

Since 2006 Robin believes the WPRA has really made a move in the industry to really establish itself as more than just a women's association. "The breeding in the industry is such a larger part of barrel racing and we are recognizing it and working hard with stallion owners and the girls, because they are raising their own horses and competing on them."

With the majority of leading sires in the program, it makes the PESI an elite program that stands apart from other programs out there. "The WPRA is the top of the industry. This is the elite. We are dealing with professional barrel racers and that gives it some prestige, especially with the WNFR which makes a big difference. The biggest dream of a stallion or brood mare owner is to see their horse run at the WNFR. They want to market their horse to the big riders and the WPRA helps to market this program to those girls and other in the industry."

For rules and guidelines you can go to the WPRA website for more information and a breakdown of the payout system. "It costs $1000 per year for enrollment, but if a stallion maintains enrollment for three consecutive years, the enrollment fee to is reduced to $750. This is something no other program offers. It is a user friendly program and not tremendously cost prohibitive. We want to promote these horses to everyone in the industry without it costing a lot of money. This particular stallion program is limited strictly to WPRA members only. There is no other program like this and in some respects it may be limiting, but it may also be one of our strongest points."

The WPRA wishes to thank our generous sponsors and asks you to please checkout their websites and learn about their product offers!
