Reeves recorded a personal-best time of 17.25 seconds
at the Calgary Stampede barrel racing championship not
once but twice in the same day.
Reeves of Dublin, Texas, won the
semifinal round in that time and then tore around the
barrels at the exact same pace in the showdown round
to claim her first $100,000 winner's check at the Calgary
Stampede.
"I guess that's my magic number,"
Reeves told the Calgary Herald. "That's my best
time and now I've done it twice."
It was Reeves' second appearance
at the Stampede after she was runner-up last year to
Tammy Fischer.
She was followed by Lindsay Sears,
the 2008 WPRA World Champion from Nanton, Alberta, who
finished the course in 17.31 seconds to earn $25,000.
Sue Smith of Blackfoot, Idaho, was third at 17.88 and
Rana Koopmans was fourth at 27.83, including 10 seconds
in penalties for two barrels knocked over, for $10,000.
"The 10-man round was extremely
tough and so was the four-person round," said Reeves.
"You have Lindsay in there who's the world champion
with Koopmans and Sue Smith, they're all extremely tough.
I just wanted to go in there and make my run and make
sure to leave the barrels up and see how fast it was."
Reeves, a registered nurse,
is married to PRCA steer wrestler Matt Reeves.
