Prior
to descending on the Biggest Little City in the World,
Jeanne Anderson of White City, Kan., had only won $3,033.
Thanks to the efforts of her great horse Firebug, she
is leaving Reno with $9,455, more than tripling her current
earnings and bringing her 2012 earnings to $12,488.
Anderson and Firebug competed on June 20 and turned in
a solid run during slack stopping the clock in 17.59 seconds,
which eventually placed her sixth in the first round collecting
$1,211. That evening she returned for her second run during
the performance and she stopped the clock in a rodeo best
16.95 seconds, edging Nancy Hunter of Neola, Utah, for
the second round win worth $3,180.
Leading the average going into the Finals on June 23,
Anderson knew it would be a tough round and she would
need a clean, solid run to capture the 2012 Reno Rodeo
title. Randa Kellogg of Point, Texas, blew away the field
in the final round posting a 17.07 second run to win the
final round and moved her to third in the average. While
Anderson didn't turn in the fastest time of the night,
finishing in 17.30 seconds, it was enough to give her
the title with a three run time of 51.84 seconds. Brenda
Mays would take second in 52.11 seconds.
Anderson would like nothing more than a third straight
trip to Las Vegas in December, and if she can carry this
momentum through the rest of the year, she will do just
that and the Reno Rodeo will have been her turning point.

to jumpstart her year and summer run. To date Anderson
has only collected $3,033 for the 2012 season and a win
in Reno would skyrocket her in the WPRA ProRodeo standings.

Squires Moves to Second in
Reno
6/18/12
Kenna Squires was the star of the show Saturday night
(June 16) in Reno, Nev., clocking a 17.42 on her solid
brown horse to take the victory lap at the Biggest Little
City in the world. Squires had a 17.89 earlier in slack,
which is placing fifth in the first round. That second
run ranks second in round two behind Fallon Taylor's 17.27.
More importantly, Squires is currently second in the aggregate
standings with a two-run time of 35.31.
In 2011, Squires finished 40th in
the WPRA ProRodeo Standings. She trails Taylor in the
aggregate by three-tenths of a second, but a big win
in Reno could help her chances for an NFR berth. Currently,
Squires is less than $10,000 out of 15th place in the
world standings.
Angela Gilliam of Brandon, Miss.,
had a nice showing on a big sorrel horse that currently
has her in third place on two runs. Rising star Megan
Lewis of Twin Falls, Idaho shaved nearly an entire second
off her effort in slack to clock a 17.70 on Saturday
night.
Sevearl top names are up in Reno
on Sunday, June 17, including Lindsay Sears, Brenda
Mays, Danyelle Campbell and Maegan Reichert. Plus, Shada
Brazile has a lot momentum from rodeos in Texas and
hopes to carry it in to Reno on Sunday.

Taylor Takes Early Lead in
Average at Reno Rodeo
6/17/12
For the first time at the Reno Rodeo, contestants are
running from the south end of the arena. Likely they have
less flag carriers and specialty acts to contend with
at that end, and each barrel is a reasonable distance
from the fence, compared to the way the third barrel was
formerly a long distance from the south fence.
Kelli Tolbert
jumped to the early lead in the first round with
her time of 17.66 seconds during slack on Friday, but
just barely tipped the third barrel on her second run
Friday night. Her time without the penalty? It was 17.26
- plus five - to drop her out of the running.
Instead, former NFR qualifier Fallon
Taylor combined her 17.81 with a smoking 17.27 on Friday
night. She leads the second round and the average standings.
Taylor is making a rodeo comeback at 29 - she was 13
when she qualified for her first NFR.
