Richards Continues Dominance in Dodge Junior Division Barrel Race
by Johna Cravens
11/14/09

Friday's second round competition at the 2009 WPRA World Finals Rodeo presented by Wrangler began at Tulsa Expo Square at 10 a.m. with the Dodge Junior Division Barrel Race.

After completing the first go-round on Thursday in the Mustang Arena, the 17-and-under barrel racers moved to the Ford Arena for the second go. The setting didn't seem to matter to Cheyenne Richards of Quitman, Texas, who clocked a 16.17-second run to win the second round and take the lead in the average. Kynder Starr was second with a 16.56, followed by McKenna Wagner's 16.59. Reata Hoar and Madison Montchal tied for fourth with times of 16.63. Clair Hodges of Coweta, Okla., clocked a 17.33 to win the 2D, with Cheyenne Bartling of Sand Springs, Okla., right on her heels stopping the clock in 17.40 seconds.

Jackie Jo Adams of Copan, Okla., won the second round of tie-down roping with a time of 10.5. Reigning world champ Jackie Hobbs of Abilene, Texas, and Michelle Alley of Whitewood, S.D., tied for second and third with runs of 12.2 seconds. Donene Taylor of Hobbs leads the average with 22.5 after two rounds.

Tina Grote of Sherman, Texas, roped her calf in 2.0 seconds to win the second round of breakaway roping and take the lead in the average with 4.8 on two runs. Former world champion Tammy Lewis of Queen Creek, Ariz., was second with a 2.1. Reigning world champ Lari Dee Guy of Abilene, Texas, and Rachelle Holt of Gruver, Texas, tied for third and fourth with 2.2- second runs.

Sevette Early of Flat, Texas, who holds the lead for the heading world title, and Tibba Smith of Stephenville, Texas, won the second round of team roping with an 8.1-second run, two-tenths faster than Willow Raley of Baggs, Wyo., and Renee Morgan of Avondale, Colo., who caught their steer in 8.3. Two 9.3s tied for third and fourth - Brandi Mueller of Guymon, Okla., and heeling world standings leader Kasey Etbauer of Goodwell, Okla., and Lacie Cribbs and Danielle Richter, both of Walnut Grove, Mo.
