Sears Sizzles during the Fourth of July Outdistancing All Barrel Racers with $21,459 in Earnings
by Ann Bleiker
7/8/10

Congratulations to 2008 WPRA World Champion Lindsay Sears for being the top money earner among all barrel racers during "Cowboy Christmas" with earnings of $21,459. Sears, of Nanton, Alberta, not only topped all barrel racers but finished ranked third among all ProRodeo contestants behind 11-time PRCA Champion Trevor Brazile with $24,253 and three-time world champion bareback rider Bobby Mote with $22,091.

Sears picked up her biggest check of $13,516 at the Ponoka (Alberta) Stampede. Sears won the first round with a time of 17.29 seconds, was fourth in the final round in a time of 17.62 seconds, tied for first in the average with Sherry Cervi with a two run time of 34.91 seconds and was second in the four-lady showdown field after clocking a 17.34-second run.

Lisa Lockhart of Oelrichs, S.D., was second among the top barrel racing earners over the Fourth of July thanks to a $13,492 payday in Ponoka. Lockhart won the showdown round in a time of 17.19 seconds, which was worth $5,000.

Sears also picked up money at the Greeley (Colo.) Stampede and Williams Lake (British Columbia) Stampede. She added $5,784 in Greeley and was leading the average heading into the final round. However, the finals of Ponoka and Greeley were on top of each other so she had to turnout of Greeley, which was won by Tana Poppino. Sears placed third in Williams Lake with a run of 16.73 seconds and pocketed $2,159 to round out her Fourth of July total.
