Crawford Secures Breakaway Roping World Title, Remsburg Wins Team Roping Heeling Title

Waco, Texas—Following two rounds of roping at the WPRA World Finals in Waco, Texas, Jackie Crawford has secured her 15th world title with the 2016 WPRA Breakaway Championship. 

Crawford has turned in times of 2.9 and 2.4 seconds, respectively and sits second in the average with a total time of 5.3 seconds heading into the final two rounds on Saturday, Oct. 22. Noel Hannon of Fallon, Nev., leads the average after two rounds with a 5.1. 

With two rounds still to be contested Crawford will look to win the average and add to her total earnings for the year knowing she is taking home more hardware to Stephenville, Texas. Her season total in the breakaway roping is currently $24,251.

WPRA Rookie Jessica Remsburg of Boligee, Ala., has secured her first WPRA World title in the team roping heeling division. Remsburg, roping with Jackie Crawford, turned in a time of 8.0 and 6.6 seconds in the first and second rounds, respectively to secure her name in the record books.

Tiany Schuster and Hoosier Fame was the only WPRA card holder to break the 15 second barrier in the card holder race Rd. 1 on Friday. She won the round in a time of 14.954 seconds adding $2,501 to her 2017 WPRA World Standings. Schelli Creacy was second in 15.080 and Jane Melby riding Brookstone Jo, a horse that her daughter Cayla Melby will take to Las Vegas as she competes in her first Wrangler NFR as the 2016 WPRA Rookie of the Year, stopped the clock in 15.104 seconds. WPRA World Champion Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi was fourth aboard Steele Magnolias in a time of 15.145 seconds.

The second round of the card holder race will be on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 22 and webcast live on Horse Sports Network. The top 30 in the average will advance to the final round on Sunday, Oct. 23 also on Horse Sports Network.

Horse Sports Network and the Wrangler Network will webcast the Saturday evening event featuring the top 6 in the tie-down roping, breakaway, and team roping in addition to the second round of juniors and an exciting slot race. The slot race will be a one run, winner take all event and always includes some of the fastest horses in the WPRA.
