The WPRA recently learned of the passing of one of its members from the Southeastern Circuit, Linda Gail Stewart, after a long battle with cancer. Stewart passed away on July 25, 2020.
Her wishes were to be cremated and then to have a celebration of life for family and friends. Right now the family is hoping this will be held in the Fall but no details have been released at this time.
Linda Gail Stewart was born on Oct. 15, 1962 and was born into a rodeo family. Her mother, Faye Faullin qualified for the NFR in 1968, and Linda Gail joined the WPRA in 2002. In 2010, she finished ranked 23rd in the WPRA World Standings with $35,254 and qualified that year for the then Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo after being the reserve champion in the Southeastern Circuit Standings. Not only was Stewart successful in the WPRA but found success in several organizations including in 2009 winning the Alabama State National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) 1-D Champion and PCA Reserve champion barrel racer and in 2002, was the IPRA, Alabama State NBHA 1-D Champion and PCA Champion barrel racer.
She and husband Chuck Stewart made their home in Mathews, Alabama, where she rode horses for the public and handled bookkeeping duties for several small businesses. She was a graduate of McNeese State University, where she held a Bachelors of Science degree in accounting.
Chuck and the family ask that in lieu of flowers donations can be made in Linda Gail’s name to Montgomery Cancer Center, 4145 Carmichael Rd, Montgomery, AL 36106. The family appreciates all the love and support they are receiving during this tough time.
