Webb, Mowry Collect Custom Branding Irons with Wins in Austin

By Ann Bleiker

Tacy Webb knows a thing or two about pressure situations both inside and outside the rodeo arena. Her day job is working as a critical care nurse in the ICU, while her stress reliever is women’s breakaway roping, and she is pretty great at both.

The Midway, Texas, cowgirl has quietly been making headlines in the rodeo business but on Saturday night (March 23) she captured a big win in her home state winning the final round and average title at Rodeo Austin. This was just the second year for Austin to feature breakaway roping and they have done so with equal money.

“Thank you, Rodeo Austin, for letting us rope for equal money on an equal stage,” noted Webb on her Facebook page.

Webb started her quest for the title with a time of 3.1 seconds to finish out of the money in the first round which was won by Rylee George. George set a new record at that time with a 1.8 second run, but Danielle Lowman would break that record to win the second round in a time of 1.5 seconds.

Webb finished in a tie for seventh in the second round in a time of 2.3 seconds to advance to the Final round. Once there she wasn’t phased by the pressure and stopped the clock in 2.2 seconds to win the round and finish atop the leaderboard in the average with a total time of 7.6 seconds on three. She edged Taylor Munsell for the title by three-tenths of a second.

“Won Rodeo Austin on Hondo,” wrote Webb on your Facebook page. “Also had a very special surprise visitor from the ICU! Shijo went to her first rodeo.”

Webb won $8,910 to add to her 2024 earnings. She was ranked 19th in the world prior to Austin with $14,895 won on the season at eight rodeos.

On the barrel racing side Kassie Mowry and her young horse Jarvis strike again a month after winning the title in San Antonio to win Austin just 80 miles up I-35 in the Lone Star State. Mowry placed in all three rounds to win the average in a total time of 45.76 seconds. She was second in the first round in a time of 15.35 seconds, just behind Jodee Miller with a 15.32. She would then turn in the fastest time of the rodeo to win the second round in a time of 15.01 seconds. Miller would get the final round win with a 15.25, while Mowry was third in 15.40. Mowry captured the title and was awarded the custom Rodeo Austin branding iron for her efforts.

“It has always been tough for me to put clean runs together back-to-back in this arena and I don’t know why…it has always been a struggle,” noted Mowry when talking with Amy Wilson of the Cowboy Channel right after her win. “I am just incredibly proud of this horse for coming in here and doing this. This crowd is wild and it’s loud when we’re running, and he just had the courage to run up there and give it everything he had.”

Mowry added $15,546 to her 2024 earnings as she has turned in one of her best winter rodeo runs thus far in her career. Prior to the big win in Austin, she had already collected $40,115 at just six rodeos and was ranked third in the world standings.
