After a postponed first round on Thursday, December 7, following the tragic shooting on the campus of UNLV on Wednesday, December 6 the 2023 edition kicked off in fine fashion. Being 11th on the ground in a round that saw lots of downed barrels Winn and A R Dash Ta Flame “Scoop” took care of business laying down a 13.71 second run to get her first-round win at the “Super Bowl of Rodeo.”

“I am just so excited. I had a good feeling about tonight on Scoop, but I didn’t think it was going to be No. 1,” stated Winn after her victory lap. “Last year was my rookie year here at the NFR and I definitely let those nerves get to me. I had all these plans in my mind. This year we were going for it.

“This year I am more connected with Scoop since I have had him two years and I knew what to expect going into this small pen.”

Pozzi Tonozzi aboard Jets Top Gun “Benny” was first out on the ground and set the pace with a 13.75 second run. Pozzi Tonozzi added $24,268 to her 2023 earnings and now leads the world with $304,831. Winn picked up a check worth $30,706 for the round win.

Winn was also sporting the fashion in the first round as she is not only competing for the NFR money but also the Jerry Anny Taylor Best Dressed award made possible by the Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. Fans can vote daily through the 9th round for this award which will be presented prior to the 10th round. Check the voting time frame and place your vote at www.wpra.com.

“There are some girls dressing great this year,” stated Winn when talking about the Jerry Ann Taylor award. “Summer Kosel has some really cool outfits.

“I won the award in Fort Worth this year and if I can win it here at the NFR that would be pretty special to me.”

Second round action gets underway, Saturday, December 9 at 5:45 p.m. PT LIVE on the Cowboy Channel.
