CALDWELL, Idaho (Aug. 19, 2023)—A barrel racer from Lampasas, Texas earned more money than any other contestant at the Caldwell Night Rodeo, and it was her second championship here. She also won in 2006.

Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi won the first round, was second in the second and the final round and earned the title in the D & B Arena with a time of 50.50 seconds on three runs. When her paychecks were added up, she left here with $10,068 riding Jets Top Gun that she calls “Benny.”

With her win in Caldwell, she has now surpassed $200,000 in earnings in 2023. She now sets second in the record books for most money won in a regular season having now surpassed Hailey Kinsel’s record in 2018 with $192,834. With over a month left in the regular season she is within striking distance of the record for most money won in the WPRA in the regular season (prior to NFR) that is held by Tiany Schuster set in 2017 with earnings of $250,378.

Pozzi Tonozzi is also on pace to win a third world championship. If she does that, it will be her first since 2009. She also won a gold buckle in 2007 and will compete at her 17th Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in December where world titles are determined. As for highest single-year earnings, which includes money won at the NFR, reigning world champion Kinsel holds the top two spots with $350,700 won in 2018 and $349,076 won in 2018.

History might have been made with a husband and wife winning titles on Saturday in Caldwell. Shelby Boisjoli won the breakaway roping with a total time of 8.7 seconds and then got to watch her husband Haven Meged in the tie-down roping. Meged also earned the championship with a total time of 25.8 seconds.
